Ahead of the 20-20 World Cup 2022 final, Pakistan skipper Babar Azam is confident to register the team’s fifth consecutive win in the tournament and lift their second 20-20 World Cup title. Pakistan didn’t start off the tournament well, having lost their first two matches. However, four consecutive wins have helped them make a stellar comeback in the competition.

“We have lost the first two matches, (but) the way we came back the last four matches, we’ve performed very well,” Babar Azam said at his pre-match press conference.

“I’m more excited than nervous… it is no doubt that pressure exists, but it can only be suppressed with confidence and belief in ourselves. And for good results it is important that one must do so.”

Pakistan will be taking on England in the final and, there is no denying that that the latter have a slight edge over the former. However, skipper Babar Azam is banking on his fast bowlers to make an impact, especially in the powerplay.

“England is a competitive team, their (10-wicket) win to reach the finals against India was a proof of that,” he said.

“Our strategy is to stick to our plan and use our pace attack as our strength to win the finals.

“Utilising the powerplay to grab as many wickets will be essential for the match.”

If not an injury, Pakistan are likely to field the same team with four pacers. On Friday, the PCB chairman, Razim Raza met the Pakistan Cricket Team and gave them a pep talk. He shed light on how Pakistan bounced back from a difficult situation in the 1992 World Cup and went on to lift the title.

“When the chairman came and shared his experience of the World Cup, it put a massive boost in our confidence,” said Azam. “He advised us to stay calm and focus on what goes well.”

The final of the 20-20 World Cup 2022 is slated to be played at Melbourne Cricket Ground on Sunday.
