Pakistan made an entry into the finals of the 20-20 World Cup 2022 after beating New Zealand in the first semi-final on Wednesday. Pakistan’s journey in the tournament so far has been reminiscent of their victorious 1992 World Cup campaign. As fans are hoping for their team to win another World Cup down under, former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has made a hilarious prediction on Pakistan Captain Babar Azam’s future.

Gavaskar predicted Babar to become the Prime Minister of Pakistan in future like Imran Khan if he ends up winning the World Cup. “If Pakistan do win the World Cup, in 2048 Babar Azam will be the prime minister of Pakistan,” said Gavaskar during the pre-match show on Star Sports before the second semifinal. His comment left his co-panelists, Shane Watson and Michael Atherton, in splits.

Fans are rooting for an India vs Pakistan final

Meanwhile, the similarities between Pakistan’s 1992 World Cup journey and their journey in the ongoing World Cup are quite similar. The 1992 world cup was also played in Australia and Pakistan then also beat New Zealand in the semifinal, while losing the group stage clash against India.

In fact, there’s a high chance that the fans might get to see a repeat of the 1992 World Cup final that was between Pakistan and England at Melbourne Cricket Ground this year as well. England and India are locking horns against each other in the second semi-final at Adelaide.

With all the talks of a repeat of 1992 going around, there are also high chances of an India vs Pakistan final. India managed to beat the arch-rivals Pakistan in an edge-of-the-seat thriller in their opening match of the tournament. And if the two sides go head-to-head against each other in the finals as well, the contest promises to be another mouth-watering clash.

India and Pakistan last met in the final of the first-ever edition of the 20-20 World Cup way back in 2007 where India managed to seal a win by a narrow margin of five runs. The fans are hoping for another thrilling final between the two sides this year as well.
