Pakistan presenter Zainab Abbas reacts after being sacked from presenting in ODI World Cup 2023

Zainab Abbas posted anti-India tweets in the past.

Pakistan presenter Zainab Abbas has reacted for the first time after her departure from India. The Pakistani presenter was removed from the panel of presenters in the ODI World Cup 2023, as a lawyer from New Delhi had filed a complaint against her following her past tweets which were anti-India and hurt the sentiments of people of a certain religion.

One of the newspapers from Pakistan named Dawn, reported that a complaint was filed against Zainab for her past tweets, which were not met well with the Indian citizens. “Complaint filed in New Delhi by a lawyer, who accused her of posting derogatory tweets targeting the Hindu faith in the past,” read the report. Following the incident, Zainab was sacked from participating in the ODI World Cup 2023.

Zainab returned from the tournament and has reacted about her departure. The Pakistan presenter said that she felt intimidated and scared by the reaction she got on her past tweets on social media. She further confirmed that there were no threats to the safety of herself, her family, and friends in any capacity. Zainab let her opinions about it by writing on X (Formerly known as Twitter).

“I was neither asked to leave nor was I deported. However, I felt intimidated and scared by the reaction that was unfolding online. And even though there was no immediate threat to my safety, my family, and friends from both sides of the border were concerned. I needed some space and time to reflect on what had transpired,” wrote Zainab on X.

Zainab further apologized for the persons whose sentiments were hurt by Zainab’s tweets in the past. “I understand and deeply regret the hurt caused by the posts that were circulated. I wish to make clear that they do not represent my values or who I am as a person today. There is no excuse or space for such language, and I sincerely apologize to anyone who was offended,” wrote Zainab and expressed her regret about the issue.
