There have been various reports stating that the IPL 2023 could be MS Dhoni’s last. The old warhorse has not given a statement about the same. Ahead of the Lucknow Super Giants vs Chennai Super Kings clash, Danny Morrison asked the big question that had been lingering in the minds of all cricket fans. Some time back, Stephen Flemming said that MS Dhoni had not talked to him about retirement yet.
The coin went the way of CSK and MS Dhoni elected to bowl first. Morrison said in a cheeky fashion, that crowd is coming in large numbers to see him in his last IPL. When Morrison said this, MS Dhoni retorted quickly saying, “Oh, so you have decided this is my last?” To which Morrison replied, “So he is coming here again next year”. A fist bump between the two at the toss brought an end to the conversation.

MS Dhoni has led CSK to four titles in the IPL. Under the leadership of Dhoni, CSK have made it to the playoffs 11 times. They have been one of the most dominating teams in the IPL and have a record that is second to none at home. CSK have proudly called the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium their fortress. On slowish tracks, MS Dhoni has marshalled his resources very well. Where the ball spins, Captain Cool is adept with the art of using spinners and this has been the hallmark of MS Dhoni throughout his distinguished career.
CSK did not have the best of seasons in 2020 and 2022. In 2022, particularly, it did not go well for the Yellove Army. Ravindra Jadeja was trusted with the captaincy. But things went downhill for the franchise, and it also affected the personal form of the all-rounder greatly. Then halfway through, MS Dhoni was handed the reins again. Although the season did not go well. It sparked a big feud between Jadeja and CSK which was only resolved by MS Dhoni later on before the start of the 2023 IPL
