‘Annabel Sutherland is terrific buy’ – Fans elated after Delhi Capitals buy Annabel Sutherland during WPL 2024 auctions

Delhi Capitals go all the way to sign 22-year-old Australian player Annabel Sutherland for WPL 2024 season.

WPL 2024 auction saw a huge scramble to sign Annabel Sutherland on Saturday in Mumbai. The 22-year-old was released by Gujarat Giants a few months ago ahead of the new season. Delhi Capitals ultimately won the race as they signed the youngsters for INR 2 Crores.

Gujarat Giants had let go of a lot of players and had the highest purse during the WPL 2024 auction. Over 100 players are set to go under the hammer ahead of the 2nd season of Women’s Premier League 2024.

Delhi Capitals break the bank for Annabel Sutherland

Australian cricketer Annabel Sutherland was the target of intense bidding on Saturday. The 22-year-old had priced herself at INR 40 Lakhs for the upcoming WPL 2024 auctions. Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals were involved in round after round of bidding.

The price kept increasing as both sides did not want to take a step back from signing the talented Australian player. There was nervous giggles from both sides as the price crossed INR 1 Crore.

Delhi Capitals though were determined to land Annabel Sutherland. There was a collective gasp as the price went up to INR 2 Crores. Mumbai Indians owners Nita and Akash Ambati pulled out of bidding once the price hit the 2 Crores mark.

It was cheer and celebration over at the Delhi Capitals table as they acquired one of the best players in the world. The 22-year-old Aussie will now join former skipper Meg Lanning to play for Delhi Capitals.

Meanwhile, there was a huge shock as West Indian legend Deandra Dottin went unsold. Last year the powerful batter from West Indies was embroiled in controversy with Gujarat Giants. The incident took place even before the start of the WPL 2023 season.

Royal Challengers Bangalore meanwhile picked Georgia Wareham for INR 40 Lakhs. Phoebe Litchfield was brought by Gujarat Giants for INR 1 Crore, while Dani Wyatt went to UP Wizards for INR 30 Lakhs.
