India and Australia locked horns once again after a hard-fought Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The first ODI was played between the two teams at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The red soil wicket had great help for the pacers, and they enjoyed bowling on this track. Mohammed Shami breathed fire against Australia as he picked up 3-17 in his six-over spell. Mohammed Siraj scalped 3-29 in his 5.4-over spell.

In the first ODI, a funny incident took place in the dying moments of the match, when India were about to wrap things up. Steve Smith was caught on camera yawing. An image of the same has gone viral on social media. The fans burst into laughter. They were stunned to see the similarities between Steve Smith’s yawn and Sarfaraz Ahemed’s yawn which happened at the 2019 World Cup in England.

KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja put on a 150-run partnership for the sixth wicket for India

The first ODI was a low-scoring encounter at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. In the second innings, Australia initially created magic with the ball as Mitchell Starc accounted for three victims. He had reduced India to 39-4 at one stage. The left-arm quick accounted for the wickets of Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav. KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja resurrected the innings for India.

The Karnataka batter played a calculated innings under pressure. He scored an unbeaten 75 off 91 balls with seven fours and one six. He found an able partner in Jadeja who rotated the strike and carefully constructed an innings of an unbeaten 45 off 69 balls with five fours. Australia could not get a wicket to break the partnership. India bailed out of trouble due to the two players.

India got off to a great start by winning the first ODI by five wickets. The Men in Blue will want to wrap up the series at Vishakhapatnam. India will also want to zero in on their World Cup playing XI and combinations. For the first time since 2011, India will host the World Cup.
