India and West Indies locked horns in Dominica as the men from the Caribbean looked to take the fight to India after the agonising exit from ODI World Cup 2023 Qualifiers. But India dominated and won the game by an innings and 141 runs on Day 3. Yashasvi Jaiswal, for his heroics on debut, picked up the Player of the Match award. The Men in Blue took a 1-0 lead in the series with one more Test match left to be played. The Men in Maroon will have some thinking to do ahead of the second Test in Trinidad.

India continued from where they left off on Day 2 at 312-2. Jaiswal made his way to a well-crafted 171 off 387 balls with 14 fours and one six before being dismissed by Alazarri Joseph. Virat Kohli continued on but could not convert his start into a century as he was caught by Alick Athanaze of Rahkeem Cornwall. He fell for 76 off 182 balls with five fours. Then, Ravindra Jadeja came in and played a handy innings of an unbeaten 37 off 82 balls with three fours and one six. Ishan Kishan stayed unbeaten on 1 off 20 balls.

The Men in Blue declared at 421-5 and had a healthy lead of 271 in the first innings.  In reply the West Indies batters fell away like a pack of cards as they crumbled to 130 in the second innings. Once again Athanaze was the best batter on show as he made a resolute 28 off 44 balls with five fours, For India, it was Ravichandran Ashwin who weaved his magic once again with the ball. The ace off-spinner picked up 7-71 in 21.3 overs.

Jadeja supported Ashwin and took 2-38 in his 21-over spell. Mohammed Siraj bowled a good delivery to dismiss Da Silva. In the end it was a comprehensive win at Dominica and showed their might against a struggling West Indies Test outfit. India also bagged 12 precious World Test Championship points in their kitty. Ashwin rewrote quite a few records along the way as he is now on par with Anil Kumble when it comes to most ten-wicket hauls in Test cricket.
