Mohammed Shami has created quite a bit of controversy after quoting Shoaib Akhtar’s ‘heartbroken’ Tweet on Sunday. The Indian pacer retweeted Akhtar’s post with the caption, “Hello brother, It’s call karma,” after Pakistan’s loss at the hands of England in the 20-20 World Cup semi-final.

Following Shami’s tweets, many former Pakistan players have been speaking out against the Indian bowler’s attempt at banter. Wasim Akram, the legendary fast bowler from Pakistan has suggested players to refrain from putting salt in their wounds.

“We should stay neutral. Indians are patriotic about their country, and I’m fine with that, we are patriotic about our country. But instead of that, jalti pe tel daalna, tweet pe tweet karna, just don’t do it man,” he said.

Former Pakistan captain Misbah ul Haq was also a part of the discussion and called for sane minds to prevail and suggested players to take care of their responsibility. “You shouldn’t do this just for the sake of few ‘Likes’. Cricketers, whether from India or Pakistan or any other country, we are all a family. So we should respect each other and give our opinions respectfully. We also have a certain responsibility.”

Shoaib Akhtar’s reply to Mohammed Shami

Earlier, Akhtar had replied to Shami’s Twitter jibe by quoting Indian commentator Harsha Bhogle’s Tweet after Pakistan’s loss. Harsha had said, “Credit to Pakistan. Few teams would have defended 137 the way they did. Best bowling team.”

Quoting the same, Akhtar replied to Shami’s Tweet by saying, “And this what you call sensible tweet…”

As for the 20-20 World Cup Final, the Jos Buttler-led side came up with a 5-wicket win over Pakistan after halting them to 137 in the first innings. Pakistan bowlers showed a great fightback but could not get past an industrious Ben Stokes. The left-hand batter played a match-winning knock of 52 off 49 deliveries to take the England team to their second 20-20 World Cup title.

With this win, they have become the only team to hold both the ODI World Cup as well as the 20-20 World Cup title at once.
