Indian pacer Mohammed Shami’s ‘karma’ comment on former Pak bowler Shoaib Akhtar has raised the temperature on social media. Shami quoted Shoaib Akhtar’s ‘heartbreak’ tweet with, “Sorry brother It’s call karma.” Shami’s reply hasn’t been taken well by Pakistan fans and former cricketers including Shahid Afridi.

This was the Tweet made by Mohammed Shami:

While taking part in a show on Sama TV, the former Pakistan player said that current and former cricketers should refrain from making such comments.

“Ham log jo cricketers hain, we are ambassadors, role models. Hamaari koshish honi chahiye ki ye sab khatm hona chahiye. Ham ek doosre ke padosi hain. Aisi cheezein nahi honi chahiye jiss se nafrat phaile logo ke beech me. Agar ham hi aisa karenge toh aam aadmi se ham kya ummeed rakhenge. (We cricketers are like ambassadors. We should always try to end (the rift) that is between the two nations (India and Pakistan). I think things like these should not happen that spread hatred among people. If we do this, then the common man who is not literate and foolish, what should we expect from him? We should build relationship and sports is such a thing that will keep our relationship better with them forever. We want to play against them and want to see them in Pakistan,” said Shahid Afridi on Sama TV. Afridi had also suggested that sports should be used to better India–Pakistan relationship and not weaken it.

You should avoid such things- Afridi

“Sports se hamaare relationship behetar rahenge. Inke saath ham khelna chahte hain, Pakistan me dekhna chahte hain. (Our relationships improve with sports. We want to play with them, see them play in Pakistan).” He suggested current players to not do such things even if they are retired players.

“Even if you are a retired player, you should not do such things. You are playing with the team currently, you should avoid such things,” he added.

Talking of not taking a dig at others, Afridi had said, “Har din Sunday nahi hota hai, “after India’s loss to England in the 20-20 World Cup semi-final.
