Jonny Bairstow earned a lot of praise on social media for carrying a ‘Just Stop Oil’ eco-zealot off the Lord’s pitch after the second Ashes Test was interrupted. Two activists ran onto the Lord’s pitch after the first over. They also tried to throw orange powder paint. While this was happening, England’s Bairstow picked up one of the protestors and carried him all the way back to the boundary rope.

On the other side, Ben Stokes and the security staff got together and managed to take the second protestor out of the ground as well. The 33-year-old had an encounter with Just Stop Oil before as well when slow-walking protestors caused problems for the England team bus as they made their way to Lord’s for the Test match against Ireland earlier this June. Bairstow put out an Instagram picture which he had captioned then saying: ‘If we’re a bit late, it’s not our fault.’ Fortunately, as it happened, the Three Lions were delayed by only a few minutes.

Josh Tongue came in place of Moeen Ali for England in the second Test at Lords

England won the toss and chose to bowl at Lords. There were two big changes on both sides. For England, Josh Tongue came in place of Moeen Ali, who did not set the stage on fire in his first Test at Lords as he was also fined and handed a demerit point for using a drying agent on his hand. He also had a blistered hand at the Edgbaston Test, which came from bowling a lot of overs on his return to Test cricket. For Australia, in a surprising change, Mitchell Starc came in place of Scott Boland.

In the Lord’s Test, Australia will be happy after the first session. David Warner rode his luck as he smashed an unbeaten 53 off 70 balls with six fours and one six. Usman Khawaja made his to 17 off 70 balls with two fours before Josh Tongue bowled him against the run of play. Australia beat England by 2 wickets in the first Test at Edgbaston.
