Trinbago Knight Riders and St Lucia Kings locked horns in the 23rd game of the ongoing CPL 2022 at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy. The 2020 finalists were coming off two back-to-back wins. The home team (Knight Riders) won the toss and elected to bowl first. Daryl Dupavilion took the wicket of opposition skipper Faf du Plessis on the last ball of the second over.
Wicketkeeper batter Niroshan Dickwella and Johnson Charles stitched a steady partnership of 59 runs. The former mistimed a pull shot against the slower bouncer from Ravi Rampaul and was caught by Khary Pierre. Charles (54) scored almost a run-a-ball half-century before becoming the second victim of Rampaul. Kings couldn’t get going until David Wiese came to the crease in the 16th over. He played a cameo of 33 off just 14 balls.
His innings helped the two-time finalist reach 147/6 at the end of the innings. For TKR, Sunil Narine and Ravi Rampaul took two wickets each while Daryl Dupavilion and Andre Russell took one each.
In reply, the four-time winners lost the wickets of Leonardo Julien, Colin Munro, and Nicholas Pooran to Roston Chase in the first four overs. At 16/3, skipper Kieron Pollard and wicketkeeper batter Tim Siefert stitched a partnership of 54 runs in 6.5 overs. The latter scored 34 off 23 balls before being caught at deep square leg by Mark Deyal off Alzarri Joseph. Five over later. Seifert followed after scoring run-a-ball 44. Akeal Hosein struggled with the bat as he could only score 13 off 21 balls.
He was caught behind by Dickwella off Joseph. The likes of Andre Russell and Sunil Narine did well to take the team close to its third consecutive win in the tournament. However, a few instances of poor running between the wickets from the duo cost the team the game by one run. The Red Army will play their next game against defending champions St Kitts and Nevis Patriots on September 22.
Trinbago Knight Riders' streak of 10 consecutive wins at Brian Lara Cricket Academy has come to an end. Another good win for Saint Lucia Kings and top spell by Alzarri Joseph, who now has 15 wickets – the most by anyone this season. #CPL2022

What on earth have I just watched in the CPL. Probably the worst third umpire decision I’ve ever seen. Absolutely blatant edge and still given lbw. Wow. #CPL22

The batters who were playing out the dot balls & not converting the singles into doubles are to blame. #CPL22 #TKRvSLK #WeAreTKR

Close match, came down to sixes required from last three balls, hopefully @TKRiders can step it up, at least they end the game with sixes even though they did not win. Thank you TKR.

Losing by 1 run is criminal! @TKRiders top order has failed yet again! Tough times ahead if they cannot sort themselves out #CPL22 #TKRvSLK https://t.co/GTOe1wzgwT

TKR has a tricky situation now. They need to win their remaining two games in the tournament. If they manage to do that, they will be might tough to beat in the playoffs #CPL22
