The 15th match of the Caribbean Premier League took place today between St Lucia Kings and St Kitts and Nevis Patriots. The match took place in St Lucia at the Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium. St Kitts won the toss and elected to bowl first.
St Lucia was provided with the perfect start, with Jhonson Charles and Faf Du Plessis going all guns blazing. Charles got 41 from 32 balls, with 4 boundaries and 2 sixes, and Faf du Plessis tore the St Kitts bowlers apart and scored a quickfire 60 from just 35 balls, with 3 fours and 5 sixes.
After Jhonson Charles got out at the score at 86, wickets were falling in quick succession and at 124-7. It was all looking dead and buried for the St Lucia Kings when there were handy runs scored lower down the order. David Wiese, Mathew Forde and Larry Edwards scored 12, 15 and 6 runs, respectively, with 3 sixes and a boundary among them.
This got St Lucia to a fighting total of 161-9 in their allotted 20 overs. For the Patriots, Dwaine Pretorius was the pick of the bowlers, taking 3 scalps for 37 runs in his 4 overs. Sheldon Cotrell and Akila Dananjaya picked up 2 wickets each from their four-over spells.
In the second innings, this score proved to be a mountain to climb for the Patriots, who never really got going with the bat in hand. Evin Lewis played an enterprising innings of 24 from 9 deliveries, with 3 fours and 2 sixes, and Dwayne Bravo got 20 from 25 balls, with 2 fours. Barring those two, there was not much with the bat from the Patriots as they just capitulated like a house of cards.
For St Lucia, with the ball, all the bowlers functioned like a well-oiled unit, and they were amongst the wickets. Mathew Forde picked up 3-19 in his 3-over spell. Alzarri Joseph picked 2-19 from his quota of four overs, and Roshan Primus picked up 2-12 in his 3 overs. The South African import David Wiese bowled a wonderful spell of 3-17 in his four overs. This amazing bowling performance gave St Lucia a big win of 61 runs.
