The Rohit Sharma-led team India dominated with the ball in the first innings of the second ODI against Sri Lanka on January 12, Thursday. The Men in Blue managed to restrict the Sri Lankan team to a meagre total of 215 with Kuldeep Yadav and Mohammed Siraj picking up three-fors to their name.

There were many moments to take away from the first innings and one of them was a six from the Sri Lankan batter Kusal Mendis that left the Indian superstar Virat Kohli in utter disbelief. To add more, it was a pull shot off Umran Malik in the 16th over and eventually, the six excited the entire set of spectators, including the Indian star batter.

It is a good batting wicket: Mohammed Siraj

After winning the toss, electing to bat first and losing Avishka Fernando early for 20 runs, the Lankan Lions depended on the likes of Kusal and Nuwanidu Fernando to rescue the team. Much to the delight of the Indian fans, the duo joined hands and put on 73 runs for the 2nd wicket. While Kusal made his way back for 34 runs, Nuwanidu, on the other hand, scored a fifty before rushing back to the pavilion.

It was Kuldeep who rattled the middle order alongside Siraj and one has to agree that it is because of these two, that India would be chasing a lesser total than the predicted one. Post the conclusion of the innings, Siraj opened up on the pitch and said that it stopped helping the pacers after the initial few overs.

“The ball wasn’t coming out quick enough, and there wasn’t enough swing. So the plan was to bowl stump to stump to keep the pressure from one end, hoping to get wickets and help the other bowlers,” Siraj was quoted as saying during the innings break.

“KL told me it stopped swinging after one over, so I switched over to hard lengths. It is a good batting wicket, but Kuldeep bowled very well to cause a middle-order collapse. The outfield is very quick so the message to the batters is just watch and play the ball,” he added.
