Watch: ‘Kya yaar tum log’ – Rohit Sharma loses his cool on Indian players on Day 1 of 2023 WTC final

India endured a tough Day 1 at the World Test Championship final at the Oval on Wednesday. Australia ended Day 1 in a dominating position at 327-3. Travis Head smashed a cracking unbeaten 146 off 156 balls with 22 fours and one six. The left-hander came in at number five and absolutely floored the Indians with his display of strokes. He scored at a fast strike rate of 93.59. He formed an undefeated 251 run partnership with Steven Smith who made an unbeaten 95 off 227 balls.

Australia were helped with some shoddy bowling from India as the seamers leaked a lot of runs after reducing Australia to 76-3 at one stage. Rohit Sharma was very frustrated with his teammates on Day 1. The incident happened while he was altering the field during the second session of the day he was seen shouting and using foul language at his Indian team members.  ‘Kya Kar rahe ho *********’ The video has been doing the rounds on social media.

India lost the 2021 World Test Championship final to New Zealand at Edgbaston

India threw the match away after a great start. Usman Khawaja was sent back to the pavilion by Mohammed Siraj for a duck. Then when David Warner was looking set on 43 he was strangled down the leg side by Shardul Thakur. After the lunch session Mohammed Shami bowled an absolute jaffa to dismiss Marnus Labuschagne for 26 off 62 balls. Post that it was all doom and gloom for India as Smith and Head dominated proceedings on an absolute belter at the Oval.

On the other hand, India were criticized for their poor showing with the ball on Day 1. India are coming from two months of T20 cricket having played in the IPL for two months straight. They also had to take into account of bowling four overs in a T20 game and bowling almost 20-25 overs in a single day of a Test match.

India lost the WTC final in 2021 to New Zealand. Notably India and Australia had squared up against each other at the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in March where India beat Australia 2-1 in home conditions. Both countries are looking for their maiden WTC title.
