A huge mix-up in the Caribbean Premier League 2023 nearly caused a big injury in the Qualifier 1 match between Guyana Amazon Warriors (GAW) and Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR). It was the last over of the Powerplay. The first phase of the inning was not an eventful one. In 5.3 overs, GAW was 36/0. Odean Smith and Saim Ayub were struggling to score runs on a slow wicket in Guyana. TKR could not claim wickets till that point.
But a golden opportunity was created for the bowling side by Terrance Hinds. The right-arm pacer bowled a back-of-a-length delivery, which was directed well towards the upper half of Odean Smith’s body. The batter tried to pull it over the mid-wicket fielder. But the shot was not timed well. There was no way the ball could have travelled the way Smith anticipated. TKR felt they had a chance to take the catch.
Two fielders, the bowler himself and Chadwick Walton, tried to claim the catch. Walton came running towards the catch from the covers region. He had his concentration fully on the ball. And so did Hinds, who came running towards the catch from his follow-through. Neither of the two knew that the other was attempting for the catch.

As a result, both the fielders collided and became responsible for a missed chance. Walton was frustrated for letting go of the catch. On the other hand, Hinds had a little scar over his hand in a failed attempt to catch the ball. It was Odean Smith who was the winner of the incident. A genuinely easy catch went down due to miscommunication between the two fielders.
Smith could not make the best use of the opportunity, as he was dismissed in the following over by Akeal Hosein. GAW went on to score 166 runs in their 20 overs. The TKR won the match by 7 wickets and qualified for the final of the tournament. In fact, both Hinds and Walton, who were involved in the mix-up, played crucial roles in the win of the TKR.
