In a trade that shook the NBA on Thursday, the Golden State Warriors brought in Chris Paul in what was looked as an outrageous move. Paul moved from the Washington Wizards to the Warriors. Meanwhile, the Warriors severed ties with Jordan Poole Ryan Rollins, a protected 2030 first-round pick and a 2027 second-round. Steven A Smith from ESPN was scathing in anger over the move by the Warriors and expressed his displeasure about it.

Smith said that Paul will not be an easy amalgamation into the Warriors setup. Smith said that he is worried about Paul adopting a different style of play for Stephen Curry and CO. He made note of another point about Paul and said that his age being on the higher side and his long history with injuries would make things tougher for him.

The reality is that the fit is not ideal – Steven A Smith

“I’m not happy about it,” Smith said. “I don’t think it fits. I love Chris Paul, he’s a future Hall of Famer and one of the greatest point guards to have ever lived. Smith said on ESPN. “The reality is the fit is not ideal. Unless you’re gonna get big and slow the pace, which we haven’t seen Golden State do under the stewardship of Steve Kerr. “Smith added.

“I don’t see how this works. Chris Paul is 38, Jordan Poole is 24. … Bringing a 38-year-old point guard with a history of hamstring injuries and your organization and your style of play is pushing the ball up the court. I don’t how that fits, how that works.” Smith further talked about it as he was aghast that the trade had been carried out.

With Jordan Poole no longer in the scheme of things, the Warriors might look to get  Draymond Green back in the mix. Due to Paul’s age, he might not play all games and come in when Green takes breathers when required. Paul could also come in during key moments and in crunch situations, whenever required. Chris Haynes from TNT said that the Warriors are looking at Chris Paul for the long haul and maybe even a championship run with him.
