Latest PS5 updates by Sony disables Cronus software

The latest update to the PlayStation 5 (PS5) consoles have now disabled Cronus software. This was done in order to fight against people taking unfair advantage of controller aim assist.

After multiple gaming companies started taking action against external hardware, it is now Sony’s time to shine. Call of Duty players have been begging companies to address these issues.

Since ranked matches do not have death cams, players were not able to report cheaters. With Cronus gone, COD players can finally have one less thing to worry about.

Cronus manufacturers have advised people not to update their PS5. However, Sony can just for players to update their devices if players do not update normally.

What is Cronus?

Cronus is a USB connection device that can hide the identity of keyboard and mouse players. It was used to fool PS5 into thinking the person using was playing on the controller. It is one of the nefarious forms of cheating, up there with lag-switching.

The cheater used this device to gain controller aim assist that helps in better aiming. All console games have built-in aim-assists, as controller players do not have as much freedom as M&K players.

Other companies also taking a stance against cheating

Many other games now also have updated their anti-cheat software to detect these devices. The latest COD update also added their feature to its Ricochet anti-cheat. Players using these devices would face multiple game crashes and, in extreme cases, an account ban.

Rainbow Six Siege counters this by introducing increasing input lag that makes the game unplayable.

Most recently, The Finals also made some huge changes to its controller aim assist. The developers essentially nerfed the aim assist. They also updated the game so that any external software will completely disable Aim Assist.
