Pep Guardiola sets alarm bells ringing after Bernardo Silva joins injury list for Man City

Bernardo Silva becomes the latest casualty as injuries mount for Man City and boss Pep Guardiola.

Manchester City have begun the latest football season with a bang. After becoming the 2nd English side to complete the treble last year, City have won all 5 games in the Premier League this year. Despite winning all their games, Pep Guardiola, the Manchester City manager has a huge cause for concern. Star mid-field player, Bernardo Silva is the latest player to be laid down by injury. This was after Manchester City began its Champions League campaign with 3-1 win over Red Star Belgrade on Tuesday night.

Manchester City might have won their 7th game of the season but the win came at a huge cost. Bernardo Silva is out for a “few weeks” as per manager Pep Guardiola. This is the latest injury that could severely hamper the current English and European champions. The likes of Manchester United and Chelsea are also struggling with fitness issues to their key players. Pep Guardiola though sounded defiant after Silva joined the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, John Stones, Jack Grealish, and Mateo Kovacic in the injured list.

Speaking to the media post the game, the Spaniard said “We are in trouble but I am not going to say ‘Oh, we have a lot of injuries’. It is what it is. With the players we have, we will go for it. As long as we have that mentality that is good” Pep Guardiola also said, “We have five really important players injured and to sustain that for a long time would be difficult.”. Silva was replaced towards the dying moments of the first half. The new Manchester City captain is out for “at least a few games” as per his coach. This would mean Silva, will be back most likely after the international break.

Red Star Belgrade began well as they shocked the Champions League winners by taking a 1-0 lead at halftime. Osman Bukari scored in the 45th minute to give his team the lead.
