Australia would be riding high on confidence after having crushed South Africa 2-0. This has put them in prime spot for the World Test Championship final which is might be played against India. Australia’s next Test assignment is against India, which will be a four-match Test match series in India for the Border Gavaskar Trophy.

Australia will be looking to avenge back-to-back series defeats which were inflicted by India on them at home in 2018 and also in the 2021 series. Australia’s last series win in India came in 2004 under Adam Gilchrist. Beating India in India will be one of Australia’s toughest assignments before the start of the Indian T20 League.

I feel we are adapting very well – Pat Cummins

“I think we’re as good a chance as we’re ever going to be,”  Pat Cummins told reporters after the third Test against South Africa ended in a draw. “It was another fantastic summer. I feel like we’re adapting really well. Having the experience of Pakistan and Sri Lanka last year has put us in really good stead for India.” Cummins said.

“No one is going over there blind. We’ll use the next few weeks to reflect on the next 12 months and then get over there really refreshed and eager.”

Mitchell Starc and Cameron Green who are suffering from finger injuries are most likely not in line to play the first Test against India.

“Starcy is all on track,” Cummins said.

“He’s just got his finger in the splint for whatever it is, four or five weeks. Then hopefully he can get back up and bowling pretty quickly. I think he’ll struggle for the first Test over there … but hoping Test number two or three is realistic.” Australia Test skipper Cummins said.

The spotlight will be on the Australian spinners, Ashton Agar and Nathan Lyon, and also Mitchell Swepson if he is included for the Test series against India. When Australia last played against India in the 2017 series, Steve O’Keefe wreaked havoc over India and picked up 12 wickets in the match at Pune which was the first Test of the three-match series that Australia won before India won the next two.
