There were many reports that the 2023 season in the Indian T20 League could be MS Dhoni’s last. But Shane Watson has come in and rubbished the claims. He said that Dhoni has the fitness and mental fortitude to go on for another three or four years. Watson played with MS Dhoni in the Indian T20 League in 2018 to 2020. He helped Chennai lift the 2018 Indian T20 League title on their comeback.

Watson made two centuries in the 2018 and 2019 Indian T20 League. The Australian all-rounder made 555 runs in the season for the Chennai franchise. He had the highest score off an unbeaten 117 in that season. In 2018 he picked up six wickets with the ball. One of the hundreds came in the 2018 final against Hyderabad.  Watson and Dhoni developed a great camaraderie when they played together at Chennai.

MS Dhoni is still very fit – Shane Watson ahead of 2023 Indian T20 League

“I heard that this is the last Indian T20 League season of MS Dhoni but I don’t think. MS Dhoni can continue to play for the next three to four years. He is still very fit and batting and wicket-keeping really well,” Watson said as quoted by India TV.   “His leadership is something that is as good as his game. His fitness and mind-reading of the game make him a good leader. His skills on the ground are awesome. He is one of the main reasons that Chennai is successful,” The Australian all-rounder praised MS Dhoni’s leadership style.

While Mumbai have won five Indian T20 League titles, Chennai have been the second most successful with four titles. The franchise have qualified to the playoffs eight times in the tournament. Chennai will want to have a great season this year and make MS Dhoni sign off on a high. Chennai have replaced Kyle Jamieson with Sisanda Magala.

MS Dhoni was seen training in Chennai ahead of the Indian T20 League. Pictures of his bulked up body and biceps created a storm on social media. MS Dhoni has given a great legacy for the Chennai franchise to uphold. ‘Thala’ will be etched in the minds of the Chennai fans forever even after he calls it quits.
