Dubai mein IPL naa hojae bas’- Fans react as IPL auction heads to Dubai for 2024 season

In a historic move, the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 player auction is set to be conducted in Dubai on December 19

In a historic move, the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 player auction is set to be conducted in Dubai on December 19, marking the first time the prestigious event will take place overseas. This significant development coincides with the second One Day International (ODI) of India’s tour of South Africa, scheduled for the same date in Gqeberha.

Before the auction, the ten IPL franchises have a deadline of November 15 to submit the lists of players they intend to retain and release. Once this process is complete, the auction pool will be finalized by early December, setting the stage for the bidding war.

Each IPL team will have a purse of INR 100 crore (approximately USD 12.02 million) to assemble their squads for the 2024 season. This allocation reflects a significant increase from the INR 95 crore purse available in the previous season. The amount each team has at their disposal on auction day is contingent on the combined value of players they release, in addition to any unspent funds from the 2023 auction.

The countdown begins: IPL 2024 auction in Dubai

Presently, the Punjab Kings boast the highest purse, amounting to INR 12.20 crore (approximately USD 1.47 million), while the Mumbai Indians hold the smallest purse at INR 0.05 crore (approximately USD 0.006 million). The remaining franchises fall within the range, with the Sunrisers Hyderabad having INR 6.55 crore (approximately USD 0.79 million), the Gujarat Titans and Delhi Capitals both at INR 4.45 crore (approximately USD 0.54 million), the Lucknow Super Giants at INR 3.55 crore (approximately USD 0.43 million), the Rajasthan Royals at INR 3.35 crore (approximately USD 0.40 million), the Royal Challengers Bangalore at INR 1.75 crore (approximately USD 0.21 million), the Kolkata Knight Riders at INR 1.65 crore (approximately USD 0.2 million), and the defending champions Chennai Super Kings at INR 1.5 crore (approximately USD 0.18 million).

Despite the auction being a one-day event, as opposed to the two-day mega auction that occurs every four years, mini-auctions have previously seen some of the most expensive acquisitions, particularly in the overseas player category. Sam Curran set a record before the 2023 season when he became the costliest player in IPL history, securing a bid from Punjab Kings for INR 18.5 crore in December of the previous year.

The upcoming auction is expected to feature several prominent overseas players, including Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc, who recently confirmed his return to the IPL after an eight-year absence. Pat Cummins is also likely to enter the bidding after skipping the IPL last year. Key players such as Travis Head, Chris Woakes, Alex Hales, Sam Billings, and Gerald Coetzee are anticipated to be part of the auction, ensuring that the event remains a highlight on the cricketing calendar.

As excitement builds among fans, the IPL player auction in Dubai is set to be a momentous occasion in the world of cricket.
