Mohammad Rizwan was taken to a hospital for a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan after the cricketer picked up an injury during the match against India in the Asia Cup 2022 on Sunday. Rizwan got himself injured while keeping wickets after landing awkwardly on his right leg during India’s innings after Pakistan decided to bowl first.
The wicketkeeper-batter played a match-winning knock against the arch-rivals. Despite not being at 100%, he managed to bat and scored 71 in the chase. He was not comfortable right through the match, but he battled on and continued.
According to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Rizwan will now undergo a precautionary MRI scan today to determine the extent of his injury. He was shifted to the hospital soon after Pakistan won a thrilling match against India at the Dubai International Stadium Sunday.
Like the 20-20 World Cup 2021, it was Deja vu when Rizwan played in the semi-final against Australia after being hospitalized and not completely fit. The right-handed batter came out to bat and played for the team. This shows his resilience and grit.
Rizwan essayed a beautiful knock of 71 runs and took off from where he left off against Hong Kong. He hit the boundaries whenever Pakistan required it most and rotated the strike beautifully, he converted ones into twos and played the ball into the gaps. He battled through pain and showcased his full range of shots during his stay at the crease.
Mohammad Rizwan has been in fine form in the Asia Cup as he has put up a big score for the second time running after his wonderful innings against Hong Kong.
It is important to note that Pakistan is already facing fitness issues where pacers Shaheen Afridi and Mohammad Wasim have been ruled out of the tournament due to injuries. Another injury will be a severe blow to the team’s prospects in the tournament. Rizwan is the latest to join the injury list.
