‘A real edge of the seat thriller’ – Twitter booming as Sri Lanka win a close contest against Bangladesh by 2 Wickets

The match between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka turned out to be a cliffhanger with the pendulum swinging side to side and there was no clear indication of who was going to wrap this up, but in the end, Sri Lanka got there to the target of 183 with four balls to spare. The architects of the chase were Kusal Mendis. He scored 60 from 37 balls with 4 fours and 3 sixes. Then, the push toward the end was given by Dasun Shanaka. He made a vital 45 from 33 balls with 3 fours and 2 sixes. Meanwhile, the vital runs were provided by Asitha Fernando and Chamika Karunaratne to get Sri Lanka the victory in this high-voltage clash.

In the first innings, The 5th match of the Asia Cup kicked off with Bangladesh locking horns against Sri Lanka. However, there was more drama off the field even before the 1st ball was bowled. A verbal volley of words ensured that the do or die clash gets more spice with a dash of pepper to it. The coin went Sri Lanka’s way as they opted to field first.

Sri Lanka chased down the target with fours balls to spare against Bangladesh

Sabbir Rehman was shown the door by Asitha Fernando. But Bangladesh was provided a solid start courtesy of Mehidi Hazan Miraz. The former U19 skipper blazed his way to 38 off 26 balls with 2 fours and 2 sixes. Then, Shakib came and went after scoring 24 from 22 balls. He was castled by M Teekshana. Mushifiqur Rahim could not get going either as he was caught by Kusal Mendis off Chamika Karunaratne’s bowling. Bangladesh looked in disarray at 87-4 when the counterattack was provided by Afif Hossain and Mahamudullah. Afif Hossain played a matured hand of 39 from just 22 balls. The innings had 4 fours and 2 sixes in them, and Mahmudullah provided good support with 27 from 22. He smashed contained a six and a four as the duo steered Bangladesh out of troubled waters.

After Afif was dismissed by Madhushanka, with a score of 144-5. On the other hand, Mahumudullah shortly departed soon after with a score of 147-6. The finishing touches were provided by Mahedi Hassan who scored a counterattacking 24 from just 9 balls which consisted of 4 boundaries. Taskin Ahmed played a quick cameo of 11 runs from 6 balls and chipped in as well. The boundary hitting at the back end allowed Bangladesh to end up on 183- 7 which was going to be a big task for Sri Lanka if they were to chase it down which they did with aplomb in the end. With this victory, Sri Lanka proved that they could win the war with words as well as the real battle on the field.
