When Mohammad Rizwan got out after scoring 71 from 51 balls, the Pakistan fans would have had their hearts in their mouth. At 147 for 4, the game was wide open and it was anybody’s win at that stage. Khushdil Shah and Asif Ali had a job in hand and they did it with aplomb. They smartly played the big shots and took the ones and twos while chipping away at the target.
Nawaz played a game changing innings of 42 from 20, including 6 fours and 2 sixes. Another turning point in the match was Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the 19th over where Kushdil Shah and Asif Ali tore the India lead pacer apart and took him for 19 runs.
This gave a sniff to Pakistan and put them back in the game which they took with both hands. They expertly chipped away at the runs and brought it down to 2 from 2. Even when Asif Ali was dismissed off Arshdeep, Ifthikar Ahmed came and finished the job while remaining as cool as a cucumber.
Earlier on, in the chase, Mohammad Rizwan again put on another brilliant masterclass with the bat and hit boundaries whenever needed to bring the required run rate down. In between, he took the ones and twos, which was the halllmark of his innings, He again did an action replay of what he did against Hong Kong.
The Pakistan batting unit functioned like a well-oiled machine and made India pay for their mistakes with the ball. The bowling attack was very pale and non-penetrating today. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Hardik Pandya and Yuzvendra Chahal looked off-colour and this cost India the game. India now need to pull their socks up and make sure they win their remaining games to ensure a spot at the finals.
This had put all the hard work that the former Indian skipper Virat Kohli had done, who scored a second consecutive fifty. For Pakistan, a good performance was put on and they continued their good form from where they left off against Hong Kong. As of now, the bout is nullified with India and Pakistan getting a victory each. This match was another showstopper for the cricket loving fans.
Twitter was abuzz and let us take a look at the reactions here:
