The clash that the entire cricketing fraternity was eagerly waiting for is back as India and Pakistan are set to clash against each other in the upcoming Asia cup on August 28. The two teams last played an International game on 24th October 2021 in the 20-20 world cup 2022, where Pakistan hammered India by 10 wickets.
The Indians fans will be looking for strong revenge from their team for their horrible loss last year. The 2022 edition of the Asia Cup which is all set to be played in Sri Lanka will be contested in the T20 format between August 27 to September 11.
Meanwhile, the schedule of the 15th edition of the Asia Cup will be officially announced soon by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) but more importantly, SLC has gotten the approval to host the tournament despite economic and political turmoil in the country for the last few months.
This will be the second time that the tournament will be played in the T20 format after the 2016 edition which was won by India. India are the current champion of the ‘Asia cup’ and will defend its title this year.
The Indo-Pak clash next month will be a crucial affair for both sides as the two teams will again meet each other in the all-important 20-20 world cup group stage match on 23rd October at the Melbourne Cricket Ground this year. The match will serve as a good practice for both the teams to analyze each other’s strengths and weaknesses.
India will look to make a strong statement through their performance as they were hammered by Pakistan in their last encounter. Shaheen Afridi blew away the Indian top order by picking the crucial wickets of Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and Virat Kohli. It was Kohli’s half-century that took India past 150. The opening duo of Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan stitched an unbeaten 153-run partnership and chased down the total without any hiccups.
