Virat Kohli did not have the best of times against Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium. He was dismissed caught by Ishan Kishan off Jason Beherendorff. Kohli has had his struggles against left-arm pace and also spin in the past and in recent times. It was wonderful captaincy from Rohit Sharma to introduce Behrendorff into the attack straight away. This resulted in getting  Kohli out for RCB.

The big Australian quick has done well for MI in the limited opportunities that he has gotten. At the Wankhede, he used the bounce of the surface to great effect to trouble the RCB batters. The left-arm pacer was not done yet. After getting Virat Kohli out he picked up Anuj Rawat who was promoted up to number three for this game by the RCB think tank. The move clearly did not pay off as the left-hander from Delhi was caught by Cameron Green off Beherendorff.

Virat Kohli had led RCB in place of Faf du Plessis for a short while

Kohli has had a very inconsistent season in IPL 2023 so far. The former RCB skipper has scored runs but, he has not been his authoritative and free-flowing self. The former India captain has whipped up 420 runs in this edition at an average of 42 and a strike rate of 133.75. Both of which have been underwhelming for Kohli’s lofty standards. At times in the tournament, Kohli has been very slow to get off the blocks and also score the runs for his side.

Former New Zealand cricketer Simon Doull had questioned Kohli’s intent and also his strike rate. He went on to say that Kohli is not striking the ball at a good rate and maybe he is playing the game for personal milestones which are costing RCB very dearly in the end. Kohli has hit six fifties and also led the team for a few matches in the absence of Faf du Plessis. The RCB skipper sustained a rib injury in the CSK game at Bangalore.

Kohli stepped in for a short while and led the side to a couple of wins along the way. He stepped down from RCB captaincy in 2021. In 2020 and 2021 RCB made it to the playoffs under the leadership of Kohli, Mike Hesson and Sanjay Bangar.
