Gujarat Titans picked up a brilliant 56-run win over the Lucknow Super Giants. The Hardik Pandya led side is all but certain to make it to the playoffs. Shubman Gill took home the Player of the Match award for his stunning innings of an unbeaten 94 off 51 balls with two fours and seven sixes. Though Gill changed the game with his match-winning performance, Simon Doull was not happy with the GT opener on how he batted towards the end.

Doull had some cold words towards Gill as he said that if a batter is not able to time the ball properly and is struggling to get the big shots out, teams should look to retire him. “Shubman was getting tired. He wasn’t able to hit the boundaries as much as he could. And it can happen. Listen… it might be controversial, but I am waiting for the day when a bloke gets 75 or 80 off 45 balls and is cooked after the afternoon heat which is 45 degrees and hence quite can’t get there so he says ‘Okay Tewatia, you are out there.’ Retire him out,” Doull said on Cricbuzz.

If you lose games, milestones mean jack – Simon Doull on Shubman Gill

“I am saying time and time again, milestones don’t matter in this game. I know people will still say hundred is a hundred. Yes, it is, but it’s a hundred if you win. If you lose, it means jack. I feel we’re just quite there when a guy says that he is tired and is not able to hit the boundaries. And if you have ammunition in the bank then why not use it, ”Doull added.

Along with Gill, Wriddhiman Saha was also among the runs. The former India keeper-batter made a stroke-filled 81 off 43 balls with 10 fours and four sixes. The openers allowed GT to get to a big total of 227-2 in their 20 overs.  LSG were no match in the run chase as they were dealing with a gigantic score. Kyle Mayers made 48 off 32 balls with seven fours and two sixes. Quinton de Kock made 70 off 41 balls with seven fours and three sixes. But in the end, it was not enough.

LSG’s net run rate took a massive dent as they were beaten comprehensively and could manage only 171-7 in their 20 overs. In the other game, RR appeared to hit a snooze button. The Sanju Samson led side have succumbed to their fifth loss in their last six games and everything has gone pear-shaped for them.
