David Warner makes bold prediction on Virat Kohli’s career

David Warner might play another World Cup himself.

Virat Kohli, once known for his relentless pursuit of high scores, experienced a temporary dip in form from 2020 to the 2021 Asia Cup. However, his century against Afghanistan in that tournament marked a resurgence, as he started putting up notable performances again. While Kohli’s returns hinted at a return to his former glory, he still lacked the unwavering consistency that had defined his earlier career. However, in the recently concluded ODI World Cup, Kohli unleashed a torrent of runs, silencing his critics in the process.

In 11 games, Kohli amassed a staggering 765 runs, reaching a score of 50 or more on 9 occasions, including three magnificent centuries. Along the way, he shattered numerous records, including the coveted title of most centuries in ODI cricket, which was previously held by Sachin Tendulkar. Kohli surpassed Tendulkar’s record against South Africa at Eden Gardens in Kolkata before breaking into an elegant celebration in which he bowed to Tendulkar, who was watching from the stands. Kohli also toppled another Tendulkar record, becoming the highest run-scorer in a single edition of the World Cup.

His exceptional batting was a cornerstone of India’s remarkable run in the tournament, where they won ten consecutive matches before falling just short of the title in a heartbreaking loss to Australia at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

However, the culmination of the World Cup marked the end of a cycle and so, questions arose regarding whether this was Kohli’s final appearance on the grand stage. By the time the next World Cup rolls around, Kohli will be close to forty, yet fans and experts remain confident in his ability to make the cut, especially considering his remarkable fitness level.

Warner believes Kohli can make it to ‘2031’

While fans and pundits speculate on whether Kohli can extend his career to the 2027 World Cup, David Warner confidently believes that the Indian maestro could compete even in the 2031 edition. On social media platform ‘X’, a fan inquired about Warner’s plans for the 2027 World Cup, expressing their eagerness to witness the Australian star in action. Warner playfully responded with “2031,” hinting at his intention to continue playing until the next decade. When another fan expressed their hope to see Kohli play in 2031 as well, Warner confidently asserted, “No reason why he can’t, he is very fit and loves the game so much”.
