The Asia Cup is just around the corner and India, who are the defending champions will start their campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan on the 28th of August at the Dubai International Stadium. The game is set to see the return of India’s veteran batter Virat Kohli, who had been rested for the side’s previous two limited-overs tours of the West Indies and Zimbabwe.

The star batter has not been amongst the runs in the last few months and will look to regain form when he returns to the national colours in the multi-nation tournament. The Men in Blue had their first training session for the Asia Cup on Wednesday and Kohli was among several batters who spent time in the nets rigorously.

The 33-year-old portrayed a lot of intent in his batting as he at times stepped out against the spin duo of Ravichandran Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal. The ace batter even broke out in a chuckle when he failed to connect one of the deliveries properly.

On the other hand, India’s opposition Pakistan also had their practice session ahead of a marquee clash. Pakistan skipper, Babar Azam was seen together with Kohli, exchanging pleasantries on the sidelines in midst of their respective training sessions. Babar Azam had also taken to his official Twitter profile to lend support to Kohli and believed the star batter will be back in form.

The former Indian captain’s rut has caught many eyeballs from around the world. Kohli has scored 341 runs at an average of 22.7 and a strike rate of 116 in the Indian T20 League 2022. Post that, he had a mediocre showing during India’s tour of England in July, where the batter’s best score was 20 in the six matches played across formats.

The Men in Blue, in a bid to clinch their third successive title this year, would hope that Kohli returns to his old self piling on runs for fun. It is to be noted that the Indian batter loves playing against Pakistan. In the 7 T20Is against the Men in Green so far, he has scored 311 runs with an astonishing average of 77.75.
