The legendary India batter and arguably one of the best to have stepped foot on cricketing field, Sachin Tendulkar expressed delight over Virat Kohli surpassing his record for the most ODI centuries. Despite India’s heart-wrenching defeat in the ODI World Cup final on home soil, the campaign is etched in the memory of many fans for Virat’s consistent and record-breaking performances. Notably, Virat achieved the unprecedented feat of scoring 50 ODI centuries, making him the first batter to do so.

The legendary India batter expressed his satisfaction that the record, originally set by an Indian, remains with an Indian. The cricketing legend believes that Virat still has a substantial contribution to Indian cricket, emphasizing the wealth, cricketing talent and runs he has ahead of him. He even said that as long as the records has been broken by an Indian he is all happy for it.

“I am so pleased he has been able to do that. I am sure that the journey has not stopped. There is a lot of cricket left in him, a lot of runs left in him. A lot of hunger and desire to achieve more for the country. I am happy that the record continues to stay with India. I have always said that the record belongs to India and it has stayed with India,” said Sachin in a video by ESPNCricinfo.

Virat Kohli was leading scorer in ODI World Cup 2023

Virat Kohli emerged as the highest run-scorer in the Cricket World Cup 2023. Across 11 matches, he amassed an impressive 765 runs at an average of 95.62, featuring three centuries and six half-centuries, with his highest score being 117.Setting a new record, Virat achieved the highest run tally in a single edition of the Cricket World Cup, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar’s 673 runs in the 2003 World Cup.

Additionally, the former India captain exceeded Sachin’s record for the most fifty-plus scores in a single World Cup. In the 27 One Day Internationals (ODIs) played this year, Virat accumulated 1,377 runs at an average of 72.47 and a strike rate exceeding 99. This remarkable performance includes six centuries and eight fifties in 24 innings, with his best score being an unbeaten 166.
