‘But he’s a credit stealer’ – Fans react as Ambati Rayudu talks about MS Dhoni’s gesture of inviting him to accept IPL 2023 trophy

Chennai Super Kings showed why they are the best in the business as they won the Indian Premier League for the fifth time. They beat GT by five wickets and scripted history at the Narendra Modi Stadium. After the game, MS Dhoni’s magnanimous gesture of asking Ambati Rayudu and Ravindra Jadeja to lift the IPL 2023 Trophy. Rayudu played his last game on May 29, when the final took place.
“Before the ceremony, he called me and Jaddu, saying he wants us to join him in lifting the trophy. He thinks it was the right moment to do it with both of us. It was really special on his part, I don’t think that has ever happened. That’s the person he is, and the person that the world knows. Overall, it is his gesture,” Rayudu told NDTV.

“It has been an emotional night that culminated in a special IPL win. On that high note, I would like to announce my retirement from all forms of Indian cricket. When I took up the cricket bat as a kid playing with the tennis ball at home, I didn’t imagine the wonderful journey that would follow for three decades,” Rayudu wrote on Twitter when he bid adieu to the IPL. Rayudu was part of CSK from 2018.
Rayudu also mentioned the former India captain in his IPL retirement post, “It has also been a great privilege to play with captain Dhoni bhai both with CSK and Team India. We have had some great memories over the last two decades both on and off the field, which will stay in my heart forever.” Rayudu scored 1932 runs at an average of 29.72 and at a strike rate of 129.31. He has been part of three IPL titles in 2018, 2021 and 2023.
“Ambati Rayudu has been an absolute legend. I rate him so highly as a batter and those three balls against Mohit Sharma today proved against one of the most in-form bowlers… to hit him for 6, 4 and 6 was sheer class. CSK head coach Stephen Fleming said as he talked about the importance of Rayudu in the CSK setup that he will be dearly missed.
