Chennai Super Kings (CSK) had a historic night at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Tuesday as they clinched their fifth title in the Indian Premier League (IPL) against defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT). Ravindra Jadeja gave a fairytale finish for CSK and skipper MS Dhoni as he turned the game around in the last two deliveries. Jadeja hit one six and one four when 10 runs were needed off the last two balls. Jadeja hit the last ball for four to the fence, and the stadium went bonkers as the sea of yellow could not keep calm. It was the man from Gujarat who sealed the deal for CSK in Ahmedabad. And the 15-over chase ended with CSK beating GT by 5 wickets.

MS Dhoni could not hold back after such an electric finish. He lifted Jadeja in his arms and carried him. It was a sight to behold. For Indian fans, it was reminiscent of Rohit Sharma lifting Virat Kohli after his match-winning 82 against Pakistan at Melbourne. This happened at the 20-20 World Cup in Australia. The man with the Midas touch led CSK to their 5th title. In the battle of master vs apprentice, the master showed how it was done and triumphed on the big night.

Devon Conway made a solid 47 off 25 balls for Chennai Super Kings

Though MS Dhoni scored a duck with the bat, he induced enough belief that CSK can trump the revised target of 175. Through fast and effective contributions, the Yellove Army showed how it is done. Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway gave a great start in the run chase. They had a solid partnership of 71 at the top and kept the pressure on the Gujarat Titans. Then after the openers fell, Shivam Dube, Ajinkya Rahane and Ambati RayuduΒ made telling scorers that took CSK to a great win.

On the other side, Sai Sudharsan showed why he is a force to reckon with. The left-hander from Tamil Nadu smashed an IPL career best of 96 off 47 balls studded with eight fours and six sixes to get GT to 214-4 in their 20 overs. His innings made a match out of it. Wriddhiman Saha made 54 off 39 balls with five fours and one six. But in the end, GT emerged second best.
