Jasprit Bumrah has successfully undertaken his back surgery that was conducted in New Zealand. The update is that Bumrah is doing well. The surgery was conducted by Dr Rowan Schouten, who is a renowned surgeon in the field of orthopaedics. He is a part of Forte Orthopaedics Hospital in Christchurch.

There is a report from Cricbuzz that Bumrah, who has not played any cricket for the past six months, is recuperating well and is on track to get back to his full rhythm. India will be hoping that the pace spearhead will come back before the World Cup is held in October- November in India.

A hospital official sidestepped all questions concerning Jasprit Bumrah stating that “Any questions regarding Jasprit will be best directed to the Indian Cricket Board”.  Though there has been no intimation from Indian Cricket Board, it is expected that Bumrah will take 24 weeks to get back to full fitness, which means he could get back by August so the chances of Bumrah making it to the World Cup squad are bright. Bumrah missed the 20-20 World Cup in Australia due to a back injury.

Dr Schouten has worked on the likes of James Pattinson and Jofra Archer

Dr Schouten has worked on former cricketers and also, especially with fast bowlers such as James Pattinson, Jofra Archer and Jason Behrendoff, who have been vital cogs of the fast-bowling arsenal for their countries. The hospital website said about Schoten “is a New Zealand-trained orthopaedic surgeon specialising in the management of adult spinal conditions and hip replacement surgery.”

Contrary to some earlier reports stating that Shane Bond suggested Dr Schouten’s name, the former New Zealand pace bowler and the current Mumbai bowling coach refutes such claims. Bond bowled at very quick speeds when he played for New Zealand but he was ridden with injuries.

Recently, it was confirmed that Bumrah will not be a part of the Indian T20 League 2023. This is a big blow for his franchise the Mumbai side. Unfortunately, Jhye Richardson is also ruled out of the Indian T20 League due to injury. Jofra Archer who is with Mumbai is also injury prone.
