The First game of the SA 20 took place between MI Cape Town which was led by Rashid Khan and Paarl Royals which was led by David Miller. Rashid won the toss and chose to field. In the third ball of his comeback game, Jofra Archer drew first blood for Cape Town by dismissing Wihan Lubbe as he was caught by George Linde.

Jos Buttler played himself in at the other end. Before he launched into the Cape Town bowling attack. He got a wonderful half-century with amazing strokes off 42 balls with six fours and one six. Buttler again made everyone take notice with his 360-degree style of play as he walked across the stumps and ramped the ball for six behind the wicket. It was a nonchalant stroke from Butler as it went all the way.
