The Ashes has been riveting and exhilarating to watch. The three Test matches so far have provided entertainment to the maximum from a fan’s point of view. While cricket has been top-notch, the series has had its fair share of controversies so far. The most recent one was the heated exchange between Jonny Bairstow and Steve Smith at Headingley.  It all started when Bairstow took a jibe at Steven Smith after he was dismissed for just 2 off 9 balls in the second innings.

They left Smith fuming in anger. Bairstow took a potshot at Smith saying (as per videos on social media), “See ya later, Smudge” and it happened that Smith got out early. A riled-up Smith then came charging towards the wicketkeeper, asking: “Hey! What was that? Bairstow didn’t want to let the matter get out of hand as he replied saying: “I said ‘cheers, see you later’.” The Kangaroos did not take kindly to this as they replied back in typical Australian fashion.

England beat Australia by 3 wickets at the Headingley Test

As per reports, David Warner had given a proper reply in kind to Bairstow. While only “See ya, Jonny” was conveyed to Bairstow as he went back to the dressing room, the reaction was an indirect potshot at Bairstow for trading barbs at Smith. The Three Lions finally showed the Kangaroos their mettle as England stormed back into the Ashes with a three-wicket win at Headingley. After two close wins at Edgbaston and Lords, the Three Lions opened up the Ashes series and have managed to stay alive.

In the Third Test, England found heroes in Mark Wood who had a sensational comeback into Test cricket Wood picked up 7 wickets in two innings. The right-arm pacer also hit 24 runs with three fours and one six in the first innings. In the second innings he made a vital unbeaten 16 off 8 balls with one four and one six. Wood complemented Chris Woakes well as the duo took England home in a tense chase.
