The Third Ashes Test at Leeds Headingley got off to a rollicking start. At the time of writing, Australia are 91-4 at lunch. On a pitch that looked good for batting but also offered assistance to the pace bowlers, Stuart Broad set the tone with the ball upfront as he picked up David Warner for the 16th time in Test cricket. Broad has had the wood over Warner in Ashes cricket for a while now and the Test at Leeds was no exception.

Broad was bowling to Warner in the first over of the game. The right-armer bowled a beautiful ball on the fifth stump line. Warner gets caught in the trap of pushing hard at the ball which gives a thick outside edge to Zak Crawley towards his left where he snaffles the catch. Once the ball got to his hand, the crowd at Headingley erupted in unbridled joy. Usman Khawaja fell early after scoring 13 off 37 balls with two fours to Mark Wood’s sheer pace.

England lost to Australia by 43 runs at Lords in the second Ashes Test

Marnus Labuschagne hit 21 off 58 balls with four fours before he was caught by Joe Root at slip of Chris Woakes. Steve Smith could not get going in his 100th Test match as he fell to Stuart Broad for 22 off 31 balls. Australia are on the front foot in the Ashes as they are leading 2-0. The Kangaroos beat the Three Lions at Edgbaston by 2 wickets. In the second Test at Lords, Australia beat England by 43 runs to get a comprehensive win. The Lords Test also had a heated debate about the spirit of cricket with regard to Jonny Bairstow’s controversial stumping.

The atmosphere at Lords was tense after the incident, leading to the suspension of three MCC members for their misconduct. Usman Khawaja was subjected to verbal abuse by the crowd and also in the long room at Lords. Tempers flared on both sides as Stuart Broad was seen giving an earful to Alex Carey because he was the one who executed the runout.

According to the rules of cricket, what Australia did was fair and Jonny Bairstow looked like he was caught napping which led to the stumping. The Kangaroos have been in red-hot form since they set foot in England for the World Test Championship final which they won against India by 2019 runs.
