Pakistan and New Zealand are playing in the second ODI at Rawalpindi. Pakistan won the first ODI by five wickets. It was a high scoring encounter. The Kiwis made 288-7 in the first ODI. Pakistan overhauled the total in the second innings with nine balls to spare. The Men in Green made 291-5 in reply and took a 1-0 lead in the five match ODI series.

The coin went Pakistan’s way as they elected to bowl first. However, a funny incident took place that caught the eyes of cricket fans from all over the world. It was later noticed that the game had started with the 30-yard circle being marked wrong. In the middle of the game, the on-field umpires, ground officials and the Pakistani fielders themselves were seen redoing the markings correctly. The incident has sparked reactions from fans worldwide; naturally, the Pakistan Cricket Board and administration have been trolled aggressively on social media.

Pakistan won by five wickets in the first ODI to take a 1-0 lead in the five match ODI series

In the first ODI, Pakistan’s bowling was on point. Naseem Shah was the star of the show. In what was an exceptional spell of bowling, he picked up 2-29 in his 10 overs which included two maidens. Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf picked up 2-63 and 2-65 in their respective 10 over spells. With the bat, Pakistan were led by Fakhar Zaman who made a splendid 117 off 114 balls with 13 fours and one six.

Zaman received great support from Inam-ul-Haq at the top of the order. His left-handed partner scored a quick 60 off 65 balls with five fours and one six. Babar Azam the skipper came in at number three and made a patient 49 off 46 balls with three fours and one six. Mohammad Rizwan the wicketkeeper made 42 off 34 balls with six fours and one six. It was a comprehensive performance from Pakistan at the end which helped them keep their noses in front in the ODI series.

In the T20 series that just happened, It ended in a 2-2 stalemate as one of the games was abandoned due to a hailstorm that took place at Rawalpindi. At the time of writing, New Zealand are 194-2 after 33 overs in the second ODI.
