Royal Challengers Bangalore won the fifth game of WPL 2024 as they went on to defeat Gujarat Giants by 8 wickets on February 27 at M. Chinnaswamy Cricket Stadium in Bangalore. Speaking about the game here, it was RCB skipper Smriti Mandhana who won the toss and invited the Gujarat Giants to bat first in the game.
Notably, after being sent to bat first, the Gujarat Giants had posted 107/7 in the given 20 overs. Star opener Harleen Deol made 22 runs, while skipper Beth Mooney departed for just 8 runs in the game. Following them, Phoebe Litchfield only managed to get five runs. However, it was Dayalan Hemalatha and Sneha Rana who managed to score 31 and 12 runs, respectively, to help them post a decent total.
However, during the chase, RCB had the best start as skipper Smriti Mandhana went on to hammer 43 runs from 27 balls, featuring eight boundaries and one six, while Sophie Devine made six runs in the game. In addition, Sabbineni Meghana and Elyssa Perry made unbeatable 36 and 23 runs, respectively, to help her side chase down the total with 45 balls to spare.

Meanwhile, RCB skipper Smriti Mandhana expressed her happiness after her side won the game and sat at the top of the points table. The left-handed batter reveals her tactics and the message she delivered to the team to win the game.
“Really happy with the way the crowd turned out, big shout out to them as well. There was no message, keep it simple, watch the ball and react. Me and Sophie do best when we are not thinking. The last match was more to do with the way we saw the first innings. Lot of work has gone in the last one year on what kind of team we need. Thank the support staff and the management for this. Renuka and Sophie can swing the ball, Renuka the inswinger and Sophie the outswinger, both were brilliant,” Smriti Mandhana said after the win.
