The Pakistan Cricket team’s participation in the 2023 ODI World Cup is still yet to be decided. On this matter, a high-profile meeting will be conducted by a committee chaired by Bilawal Bhutto which will be held on Thursday to decide on the participation of the Pakistan team for the 2023 World Cup in India. The committee would want to get approval for a security check in India to asses all the arrangements before finally giving the green light on the matter.

The committee will be headed by Pakistan’s foreign minister who is expected to hold talks with the Cricket Governing Body and the Indian Cricket Body to approve the visit of a security delegation to the grounds where Pakistan will play their games. “A high-profile meeting will decide on the World Cup participation,” a top PCB official told Cricbuzz on Tuesday.

Pakistan and India last played a bilateral series in 2012 in India

The Pakistan team has also been kept in the loop by the Indian Cricket Board with regards to the change in schedule which will happen in the coming days. The big India-Pakistan game according to reports will be played on 14 October and not on 15 October as planned earlier. The World Cup will be hosted by India solely this time around, unlike the three previous occasions where it co-hosted the event. Pakistan’s match against the Netherlands which is to be played on October 6 might be changed as well.

India and Pakistan have faced off in India previously during the 1996 World Cup where India beat Pakistan by 39 runs in a high-voltage clash at Bengaluru. In 2011, the stakes were even higher for the two sides as they played the semi-final at Mohali with the two Prime Ministers of both countries present. It was another closely-fought game where India beat Pakistan by 31 runs. The Men in Blue went to lift the 2011 World Cup against Sri Lanka.

Pakistan and India have not had the best bilateral relations recently which has affected the countries touring each other. They mostly play against each other at World events. The last time India and Pakistan faced off in a bilateral series was way back in 2012. In the T20Is the series was squared at 1-1. In the ODIs, Pakistan won the series 2-1.
