In the third and final ODI of the ongoing series, India beat hosts South Africa by 78 runs at Boland Park in Paarl. In the do-or-die game, Sanju Samson and Tilak Varma led India’s batting unit, while pacer Arshdeep Singh handled the bowling department. With this victory, India also named the series 2-1, as KL Rahul became the second Indian skipper to win an ODI series in South Africa.

Early on, India showcased a formidable batting display in their innings, posting a challenging total of 296-8 in the allotted 50 overs. Debutant Rajat Patidar set a strong foundation, scoring a quick 22 runs off 16 balls and displaying aggression with a strike rate of 137.50. However, the early departure of Sai Sudharsan, for 10 runs off 16 balls, posed an initial setback.

The standout performance came from the prolific Sanju Samson, who crafted a magnificent century, scoring 108 runs off 114 balls at an impressive strike rate of 94.74. Samson’s innings were marked by finesse and power, making a substantial impact on India’s total. Skipper KL Rahul contributed 21 runs off 35 balls, anchoring the inning before his dismissal. They both added 52 runs for the third wicket.

Tilak Varma and Rinku Singh played crucial roles, scoring 52 (67.53 S/R) and 38 runs (140.74 S/R), respectively, forming valuable partnerships. Despite losing wickets at regular intervals, India posted a competitive total of 296/8 in 50 overs. For South Africa, B. Hendricks took 3 wickets.

Tony de Zorzi fails to lead South Africa to victory

Chasing a massive total South Africa had a great start as opener Reeza Hendricks and Tony de Zorzi added 59 runs for the first wicket. Hendricks, in his inning, scored 19 runs off 24 balls with the help of three boundaries. After his departure, Rassie van der Dussen also failed to put on a show. However, Zorzi, along with skipper Aiden Markram, added 65 runs for the third wicket.

Markram, in his inning, scored 36 runs off 41 balls with the help of two fours and a six. Meanwhile, Zorzi also failed to convert his start into a big knock. Zorzi, in his innings, scored 81 runs off 87 balls with the help of six fours and three sixes. Despite their efforts, South Africa fell short of the target. With this win, KL Rahul led the team to win the ODI series by 2-1.
