India and Pakistan were defeated by the same Jos Buttler-led England side in the 20-20 World Cup. After thumping India by a massive 10 wickets in the semi-final, England defeated Pakistan in the final and disappointed a great chunk of cricket fans.

Both India and Pakistan’s defeats against England could be narrowed down to their lacklustre batting in the powerplay. Both teams struggled with the run rate early on which made creating a big score very difficult. England on the other hand have been reaping the rewards of aggressive batting in the powerplays which allows them to create big totals as well as chase those easily.

India and Pakistan’s loss to England has unearthed both teams’ archaic tactics and now questions are being asked of their methods. One such question was put forth Pakistan captain Babar Azam in the post-match conference.

“Babar, India or Pakistan’s philosophy of playing T20 Cricket is to play in one day style. You have to keep the wicket and hit it at the end. England has continuously shown to two big Asian teams how T20 cricket has changed. Are these kinds of surprises necessary for a change? Whether you talk about Pakistan or India, do you feel that you get a strong message when you come to such tournaments?” a journalist had asked Azam.

The Pakistan captain failed to give a straightforward answer but suggested that Pakistan and, India according to the journalist, have their own plans and they stick to it.

“It depends on the situation. What is the demand from you and after that you plan. Every team has its own plans and we stuck to our plan. Sometimes we are not able to give 100% but we try not to repeat our mistakes. But this is a part of the game. Sometimes you do well and sometimes you don’t,” said Babar.

“This is the beauty of cricket. Every day is different. Everyone has their own mindset. I utilize it in the first six overs. Both teams struggled after the first six overs,” Babar Azam stated further.
