The Indian Team’s next assignment is the Asia Cup which will be hosted jointly by Pakistan and Sri Lanka for the first time via a hybrid model. According to the agreement, four games will be played in Pakistan and nine games will be played in Sri Lanka. Two groups of three teams each will be there. Pakistan, India and Nepal are in one group and Afghanistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh will play in the other group.

Meanwhile, Curtly Ambrose said that Indian fans should be upbeat about winning the World Cup on home soil. “Rohit Sharma is a very good captain – we have seen over the years & there is every reason for fans to be hopeful that India can win the World Cup,” Ambrose said on Rev Sportz.  When we talk about the Indian side, they won their last ODI series 2-1 against the West Indies. In the Asia Cup the second stage will be the Super Fours, the top two teams from the group stages will make the Super Fours.

India last won the World Cup in 2011

From there, the top two teams from the Super Fours will play in the final. India have not been able to win a World Event since 2013 when they won the Champions Trophy under MS Dhoni. The Men in Blue made it to the finals of the 2017 Champions Trophy. When it came to the 2019 World Cup they lost to New Zealand in the semi-finals. Even in the World Test Championship, India lost to New Zealand and Australia in back-to-back finals.

When it comes to ODIs, It has not been smooth sailing under Rohit as they lost 2-1 to Australia at home. The Men in Blue also lost to 2-1 Bangladesh in an ODI series. The middle order of the Indian Team has been very brittle. With regard to the bowling options, India has not been able to give a long run to a left-arm pacer which highlights the lack of variety in the attack. The Men in Blue last won a World Cup in 2011.
