The first day of the opening Test between India and England was entertaining, to say the least. England’s wicketkeeper-batter Ben Foakes made it even more entertaining with his antics when England came out to bowl toward the end of day one.

Mark Wood was bowling to Rohit Sharma as the Indian skipper tapped the ball for a single. Ollie Pope threw the ball from the square leg boundary with the English wicketkeeper watching the ball.

In an attempt to collect the ball, Ben Foakes stepped on all three stumps and made a mess of the furniture. What made the situation worse was that Ben Foakes also failed to gather the ball cleanly.

Rohit Sharma falls after an electric start to innings –

Hyderabad saw an electric start to the first day of the India vs England 2024 Test match. After bowling out England for 246, Team India’s openers were off to a great start. It seemed like India was the one playing the Baz-Ball style rather than the visiting side.

Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal added 80 runs for the first wicket in just 12.2 overs. It was the young left-handed batter who took the attack to the opposition. Debutant Tom Hartley was hit for two sixes in his first over in Test cricket by Jaiswal.

England went up in appeal thrice and used up all their DRS appeals by the 14th over of the game. With Yashasvi Jaiswal going great guns, even Rohit Sharma tried to force the pace of the game.

Jack Leach tossed the ball and invited Rohit Sharma to go for the big shot. The Indian opener took the bait and the ball hit the toe of the bat as Ben Stokes took an easy catch. This was the 5th time Jack Leach had got the better of Rohit Sharma in Test Cricket.

Earlier in the day, Ben Stokes was the lead scorer for England with 70 runs. Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja picked three wickets each to keep the visitors under control. Axar Patel got the key wickets of Jonny Bairstow and Ben Foakes just after the lunch break. Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah ended the innings with two wickets which included the scalp of Ben Stokes.
