With the Asia Cup 2022 reaching its endgame, an inconsequential match dawned upon both India and Afghanistan. For Afghanistan, it was tougher as they had to play a game in less than 12 hours time after the mentally draining loss against Pakistan. For India, it was a chance to try out the players from the bench and they did just that. Rohit Sharma was rested, and KL Rahul led the side. Afghanistan won the toss and bowled first.

The other changes being that Hardik Pandya was rested, and Dinesh Karthik was in. Deepak Chahar came in place of Yuzvendra Chahal and Axar Patel came in as well. Rahul and Kohli started brilliantly with the bat and Afghanistan were put under pressure right from the get-go. They were rotating the strike freely and they were able to find the boundaries at will. Kl Rahul made 62 from 41 balls with 6 fours and 2 sixes.

The duo attacked both spinners and the fast bowlers, they never allowed them to settle, Kohli was looking in sublime touch and attacked the famed duo of Mujeeb and Rashid with aplomb. he kept on finding the boundary with ease and tore into the pacers later on. When he hit six of Fazalhaq Farooqi he went from 94 to 100 which turned out to be his 71st century after a gap of 1021 days which got the fans into a tizzy and his teammates applauded as well.  His innings consisted of 12 fours and 6 sixes, this allowed India to mount a massive total of 212 -2 on the board.

With the ball, India hit the right notes straightaway with Bhuvneshwar Kumar running over the Afghanistan batting like a rash. he got the new ball to swing prodigiously, and the batters were trapped in a web. He picked up a fifer and accounted for the wickets of Zazai, Gurbaz, Najibullah, Janat and Omarzai.

Kumar’s spell never allowed the Afghans to get going, Arshdeep Singh, Ravichandran Ashwin and Deepak Hooda picked up a wicket each. The lone bright spot for Afghanistan in this match was Ibrahim Zadran who made a good knock of 64 from 59 balls.

India won by a big margin of 101 runs to end their Asia Cup 2022 campaign on a high.
