Following a resounding triumph in the 2023 Asia Cup, India continued their winning streak by defeating Australia in the 1st ODI, securing victory with five wickets to spare. This achievement propelled India to the summit of the ODI rankings, displacing Pakistan as the world’s number-one ODI team. Notably, this ascent also solidified India’s position as the top-ranked team across all cricket formats.
India’s remarkable feat of becoming the world’s number one team in all three formats simultaneously makes them only the second nation to achieve this remarkable distinction. In T20I cricket, India boasts a commanding lead over reigning World Champions England, while in Test cricket, they maintain a significant advantage over the 2023 World Test Championship winners, Australia.
Should India maintain their dominance throughout the ongoing ODI series against Australia, they will enter the upcoming ODI World Cup campaign as the top-ranked team, a position of great prestige. The team is set to face Australia in two more matches, and victory in these encounters will further solidify their rankings. Notably, since South Africa accomplished this feat in 2013, India is only the second team to simultaneously hold the number one position in all formats.
Indian players are not just excelling in team rankings; they are also shining in individual player rankings. Star batter Shubman Gill currently holds the 2nd rank among ODI batters worldwide. If he manages to accumulate 200+ runs in the ongoing three-match ODI series against Australia, he could surpass Pakistan’s skipper, Babar Azam, to become the number-one ODI batter. Additionally, India’s captain, Rohit Sharma, and former captain, Virat Kohli, both feature prominently in the top 10 list of ODI batters.
In the bowling department, India’s pace sensation, Mohammed Siraj, sits at the pinnacle as the number one ranked ODI bowler, while spinner Kuldeep Yadav holds the 9th spot in the rankings. Hardik Pandya showcases his all-round prowess, ranking 6th in ODIs and 2nd in T20Is among all-rounders. Furthermore, star batter Suryakumar Yadav leads the T20I rankings.
In Test cricket, India’s captain, Rohit Sharma, is in the 10th position among batters, closely followed by Shubman Gill. Among bowlers, Ravichandran Ashwin holds the top spot, with Ravindra Jadeja not far behind in third place. Meanwhile, the pace spearhead, Jasprit Bumrah, occupies the 10th position. In the all-rounders’ category, Ashwin and Jadeja continue to dominate, with Axar Patel securing the 5th position.
Here is how fans react to India becoming number 1 in all formats:ย
