The Indian team have officially won the Test series vs England keeping their winning streak alive at home. The 4th Test saw the hosts make an incredible comeback after trailing behind in the first two days. England made 353 on the back of a brilliant century by Joe Root. The Indians were at 219-7 at the end of day 2 but came back into the game thanks to Dhruv Jurel’s amazing knock of 90 to keep his team in the game.
The England team once again gave away the game as they were all out for just 145. The India spin attack proved to be threatening on the wicket which had dried up. England were still able to set a target of 192, which still kept them in the game on this slightly tricky wicket. Even though The English bowlers did make it slightly tough, the partnership of Jurel and Shubman Gillwas enough to give them a 5-wicket win to win the series 3-1.
Rohit Sharma on youngsters’ hunger for Test cricket
Rohit Sharma will be a happy man after sealing yet another home Test series victory and extending the streak to 17. This was also the first Test series loss faced by England in the Bazball era. Rohit was asked a question during the post-match press conference on the selection of some youngsters in Test cricket and what is the reason behind it. Rohit gave a clear reply saying “ Dekho, jinko Test Cricket ki bhook nahi hain, wo dekh ke hi pata chal jata hain. Un sabko khilane ka kya faida phir? (See, the one who doesn’t have hunger to play Tests can be seen, what’s the meaning of playing them)”.
This was a perfect reply by the India skipper regarding the selection of some youngsters. There were further speculations by the fans, that this was directed towards players like Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer. However, Rohit has chosen not to take any names and gave the safest answer possible. This is the correct amount of responsibility displayed by him on a very controversial topic. Rohit has proven once again why he is one of the best captains for India right now.
