“The whole of India misses Mahi bhai”
In the pre-match press conference for the Ranchi Test, Shubman Gill faced the inevitable question about MS Dhoni, the iconic wicketkeeper-batsman from the city. Reporters asked him if the team was missing Dhoni since they were in his hometown. Stepping beyond the specific venue, Gill offered a heartfelt response that resonated beyond the press room. He acknowledged that “The entire India misses Mahi bhai (MS Dhoni). It doesn’t matter where we play, in Ranchi or anywhere in the world.”
Reflecting on his recent lean spell, Gill revealed that while external noise could be distracting, it was his own high standards and unfulfilled expectations that truly impacted his performance. “It is a bit tough . When people from outside talk about all those things, it does not make much difference to me. But the expectations that I kept on myself made me a bit disappointed,” he said.
