The 9th match of the International T20 League took place between the Abu Dhabi Knight Riders and the Desert Vipers. The match took place on Jan 20 on Friday at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. The Knight Riders won the toss and chose to bowl.
The Desert Vipers batted first and Rohan Mustafa fell early for just 8 off 5 balls, with two fours. He was caught by Charith Asalanka off Andre Rusell. Alex Hales smashed a superb hundred. He made 110 off 59 balls, with seven fours and six sixes. He was run out by Dhananjaya de Silva and Kennar Lewis.
The England International tore the Knight Riders’ attack to shreds. He got great support from Colin Munro, who made 56 off 41 balls, with four fours and two sixes. He was caught by Akeal Hossein off Lahiru Kumara. Sherfane Rutherford and Tom Curran provided the finishing touches which helped The Desert Vipers make 219-4 in 20 overs. Rutherford scored 23 off 7 balls, with two fours and two sixes.
Desert Vipers won the game by 111 runs in the ILT20
Rutherford was caught by de Silva off Kumara. Curran made an unbeaten 16 off 8 balls, with one four and one six. Kumara was the best of the bowlers for the Knight Riders as he picked up 2-31 in his four overs.
In the second innings, the Knight Riders collapsed for 108 as they were an absolute no-show with the bat. In the second innings, on the fourth ball of the fifth over, Sheldon Cottrell bowled a length ball to de Silva, he tried to hit it to the leg side but the ball came off the thigh pad and rolled towards point where Wanindu Hasaranga moved across quickly, gathered the ball and fired a direct hit at the keeper’s end. Charith Asalanka was well short of the crease and had to depart for a duck.
For the Desert Vipers, Cottrell picked up 3-14 in his four overs. He was the best bowler for them. Hasaranga picked up 2-21 in his three-over spell. Benny Howell picked up 6-2 in 1.1 overs The Desert Vipers won the match by 111 runs.
