When Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma got out in quick succession, the Indian fans would have had their heart in their mouths. Rohit Sharma had got out after playing a rather sedate 12 runs from 18 balls. Virat Kohli played a good 35 but was dismissed by Nawaz which kept the run scoring in check.
India were in a precarious position and needed some calm heads in the middle. They found them in the form of Ravindra Jadeja and Hardik Pandya. The former scored a valuable 35 from 29 balls and Hardik, who was awarded the Man of the Match performance, hit 33 from just 17 balls with 4 fours and 1 six. The match went down the wire as 8 runs were needed in the final over. Jadeja got out on the very first ball but Hardik Pandya finished the game by hitting a six on the fourth ball.
The bowlers were good for Pakistan with Nawaz picking 3 scalps and Naseem Shah picking 2 wickets which included the big ones of Rahul and Jadeja. Dahani bowled a very good spell as well.
Earlier, Rohit Sharma had won the toss and chose to bowl first. The opening tone with the ball was set by Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who bowled a beautiful first over to Babar Azam and dismissed him for just 10 runs with a well-directed short ball.
Fakhar Zaman was caught behind off the bowling of Avesh Khan. Mohammad Rizwan was in fine form and made a stroke-filled 43 from 42 balls, which had 4 boundaries and 1 maximum. Hardik Pandya’s short-ball ploy worked as he dismissed Ifthikar Ahmed and Khushdil Shah in one over with the help of the bouncer. This bought the game back in India’s favor as Pakistan lost a lot of wickets in quick succession.
With the score at 128-9, it would have looked like the end for Pakistan. But Shahnawaz Dahani’s well-timed cameo of 16 from just 6 balls, which consisted of 2 sixes, gave Pakistan a fighting total of 147- 9. For India, Bhuvneshwar Kumar was sublime in his 4 overs, picking 4 for 26. Hardik Pandya bowled a game-changing spell of 2-25 and Arshdeep Singh picked up 2-33 for his spell.
Twitter was totally abuzz. Lets take a look at the reactions here:
