WATCH: Rohit Sharma’s epic response to Reporter’s question in Press Conference

India will face Sri Lanka at the Waankhede Stadium on November 3, that is today.

Amidst a lot of cheers and applause, a life-sized statue of cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar was unveiled in a grand ceremony at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on November 1. The statue is a tribute to arguably one of the greatest batters ever who turned 50 in April this year.

In a press conference ahead of the game between the World Cup game between India and Sri Lanka, Indian skipper, Rohit Sharma was asked about his views on Sachin Tendulkar’s statue which was recently installed at the Wankhede Stadium. Rohit said while he saw the statue, he had not been able to give it a close look yet but said that it was fantastic. He then uttered a sentence that has become a regular feature at his press conferences- “Ab kya boloon mai usme? following which everyone burst into laughter.

“Practise par pahuche toh dekha humne statue, par itne closely dekhne ko nahi mila but mauka milega ache se dekhne ka. Ab kya boloon mai usme. It’s nice. We saw the statue; it’s fantastic”, he said.

India’s quest for dominance continues

Meanwhile, India will face the Lankan Lions at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai today in a match that evokes eerie memories of the 2011 World Cup final. Except that this time around, India started as an overwhelming favourite. Rohit Sharma’s side has been simply phenomenal in this tournament so far, winning all six of their matches with aplomb. Even when faced with adversity in the matches against New Zealand and England, the Indian team responded magnificently to script memorable and gratifying victories.

India, with three group stage matches remaining, will aim to finish atop the points table. After their match against Sri Lanka, they will face the Proteas in Kolkata on November 5, before heading to Bengaluru for their final match against the Netherlands on November 12.

Sri Lanka, on the other hand, has played timidly in this tournament, resulting in only two wins from six matches. They will need to win their remaining three matches convincingly and then hope for other results to go their way to have a chance of reaching the semi-finals, which seems like a distant dream at the moment.
